Longtime restauranteur Mike Klank has recently unleashed his fantastic taqueria concept onto the world of Franchishing.  Operating several locations in and around Atlanta, GA, Taqueria del Sol has created huge followings at each and every stop. The Decatur location, just outside of the old Square, is clean and modern matching the minimalist menu that has become the chain's signature.

The menu usually starts with that day's special blue plate, and the day's special taco. The next two sections are tacos and enchiladas. These generally stay the same, and we love the pastorita taco. The guacamole is made fresh and has big chunks of avocado. The cheese dip is hot and creamy, and has plenty of chopped jalepeno sprinkled on top. The chips are sturdy and crispy, and also made fresh.

Offering a full bar is one of the strong points of del Sol. Their house margharita is exceptional being not to sweet, not to tart, and with a nice tequilla undertone. The tequilla selection is long and deep with many top shelf options. Some wine selections are offered as well as some standard beer choices. Soft drinks are sold by the can, and wax paper cups are used for all non alcoholic drinks.

All of the tacos are unique, tasty, and inexpensive averaging about $2.50 each. The fried chicken with spicy mayonnaise is very good, as is the BBQ brisket with coleslaw. We thoroughly enjoyed the enchiladas, specifically when served with the lemon cream sauce. The chili sauce was also good, and combining the two as we did is an excellent variation.

The standard appetizers are offered such as a trio of tomato salsa and cheese dip, as well as some interesting sides such as spicy collards, and jalepeno cole slaw.  Most everything on the menu is above average, and the prices are all reasonable. Everything is a-la-carte so mix and match to your hearts delight. Plates are great for sharing, and the tacos are so cheap you can order one of each and still not spend over $20.

WARNING: The service is counter order only, and the lines get crazy long during peak times. The que moves swiftly, but regardless there still seems to be 50 people still in line ahead of you.

INSIDER TIP: The seats at the bar are first come first serve, and all food and beverages can be ordered from the bartender. This is as close to have tableside service as you will get here, but when the seats are open - beats waiting in that line!
